Synopsis
Tonari no Seki-kun turns an ordinary classroom desk into a stage for elaborate distractions. Rumi Yokoi wants nothing more than to get through the lesson and stay focused, but the boy sitting beside her, Toshinari Seki, keeps devising increasingly strange ways to ignore class. One day he builds a domino course across his desk; another, he stages a miniature war with shogi pieces or fills the space with some new private experiment, making the room feel less like a classroom than a tiny arena of mischief.
As Yokoi watches Seki's creations unfold, she is pulled into his bizarre games again and again, even when she tries to keep her attention on the blackboard. Her reactions often get her in trouble with their teacher, turning her attempts at discipline into part of the comedy. Day after day, the two settle into a quiet battle between concentration and curiosity, with Yokoi struggling to behave and Seki finding fresh ways to bend the rules of school life. In Tonari no Seki-kun, even the smallest moments can become unexpectedly inventive, and no lesson stays normal for long once Seki starts playing his games.
