Yamato Akitsuki leaves the Hiroshima countryside for Tokyo to begin high school in Suzuka. In exchange for room and board, he helps his aunt and cousin run their bathhouse and the girls-only dormitory next door, the place where he will be living during the school year. On his way to meet his relatives, he stops at a local high school track and is immediately drawn to a high jumper practicing with rare focus and precision.
That athlete is Suzuka Asahina, a heavily scouted track and field star who attends the same school and lives nearby. Serious, proud, and completely devoted to her sport, Suzuka is put off by Yamato's clumsy, carefree personality, and the two quickly discover that living close to one another does not make them any better at getting along.
Wanting to win her over and prove himself, Yamato joins the track team after discovering a hidden talent for sprinting. Between punishing practices, his classmates, and the ever-inebriated college students at the dorm, he starts to grow into a more disciplined runner and a more dependable presence. As the days pass, Yamato pushes himself harder than ever, chasing improvement and the chance to stand beside Suzuka.
