Sounan desu ka? follows Homare Onishima, Shion Kujou, Asuka Suzumori, and Mutsu Amatani after a school trip goes terribly wrong and leaves them stranded on a deserted island. While Shion, Asuka, and Mutsu are frightened and desperate, Homare remains strangely calm, because this is not the first time she has had to survive on her own.
Raised by a survivalist father and trained all over the world since childhood, Homare knows how to climb cliffs, trap prey, build shelters, and find food in places most people would consider impossible, including the infamous moose testicles she has already learned to eat. To her, surviving on an uninhabited island with only a slim chance of rescue is child’s play. The real challenge is keeping her three classmates from panicking.
As Homare shamelessly guides the girls through the finer points of survival, including drinking fish blood and eating cicadas, the stranded classmates slowly begin to adapt. What starts as a nightmare becomes an absurd crash course in endurance and resourcefulness, and the girls realize that life on the island may be stranger, harsher, and far more manageable than they ever expected.
