In Shabake, Edo-period Japan becomes the stage for a quiet but unsettling supernatural mystery. Ichitarou, the frail young master of Nagasakiya, one of the largest stores in Nihonbashi, has been in poor health since birth and is unable to go outside on his own. Even so, he is never truly alone: demons such as Shirasawa and Inugami remain at his side, serving him as silent guardians and helping him move through a world where daily life and the unseen coexist.
One night, Ichitarou slips out and witnesses a murder, and that single glimpse pulls him into a chain of strange killings that begin to spread across Edo. As the city grows more uneasy, he starts searching for the culprit with the help of Shirasawa, Inugami, and the other demons around him. Shabake follows his careful investigation through crowded streets, merchant houses, and shadowed corners of the capital, balancing the intimacy of his fragile life against the violence rising around him. The result is a mystery shaped as much by loyalty and quiet companionship as by fear, with the supernatural woven into the everyday rhythm of Edo.
