In Sayonara Lara, a mermaid princess named Lara is raised with love by her father, the king of the sea, and by her sisters. Her world changes when she falls in love with a human prince who lives on land, a relationship forbidden in mermaid society. Refusing to let that love slip away, Lara journeys to the surface and accepts a potion from the witch Grace that turns her into a human. The magic gives her a chance to pursue the prince, but it also carries a cruel condition: if she cannot find true love, she will turn into foam and disappear into the ocean. Lara still chooses to follow her heart, even knowing what is at stake. When her wish goes unfulfilled and she vanishes into the sea, the story leaves behind a promise that will not stay buried forever. Two hundred years later, Lara awakens once more in Lake Biwa, where she begins searching again for the true love she has been seeking.
