Sabikui Bisco is set in a ruined Japan where endless sand stretches across the land and a mysterious rusting disease eats away at what remains of civilization. The government blames the devastation on mushroom spores and on Bisco Akaboshi, whom they brand the "Man-Eating Mushroom," but the truth is far stranger. Bisco is a Mushroom Protector, a wanderer determined to find the legendary Sabikui mushroom, said to be the ultimate cure for rust.
Traveling across the wasteland with his giant crab Akutagawa, Bisco keeps moving even as suspicion and prejudice follow him from one settlement to the next. His path crosses that of Milo Nekoyanagi, a kind doctor searching for a treatment for rust poisoning so he can save his sick sister. Together, the two chase answers through a broken world where medicine, myth, and survival are all tangled together.
As Bisco pushes toward the mushroom that could cleanse the rotting land, Sabikui Bisco builds an adventure around desperate hope, stubborn conviction, and the idea that the truth can be buried beneath fear and propaganda.
