Outbreak Company opens when Shinichi Kanou, an otaku, is suddenly drawn into the Eldant Empire, a fantasy realm of elves, dwarves, dragons, and unstable political rivalries. Instead of being cast as a hero or wandering adventurer, he is drafted by the Japanese government and turned into an unlikely cultural envoy, sent to introduce anime, manga, and games to a society that has never encountered them. What begins as a bizarre assignment quickly becomes a test of diplomacy as Shinichi learns to move through palace politics, class tensions, and the volatile expectations surrounding Princess Petralka.
As he spends more time in the empire, Shinichi starts building real trust with the people around him, including the half-elf maid Myucel, whose presence helps bridge the gap between two very different worlds. Blending comedy, fantasy, and social satire, Outbreak Company looks at what happens when otaku culture collides with an unfamiliar society and how shared interests can create understanding even where language, status, and tradition seem to stand in the way.
