In Ojamajo Doremi, third-grader Doremi Harukaze of Misora Elementary calls herself the unluckiest pretty girl in the world. Her parents are always fighting, her little sister Pop makes fun of her, and the boy she likes is interested in another girl, so a magic wand seems like the perfect answer to her problems. That fantasy becomes real when she stumbles into Majorika's mysterious shop, realizes its owner is an actual witch, and triggers the curse that turns exposed witches into magical frogs. To regain her original form, Majorika makes Doremi her apprentice—only to discover that Doremi is just as clumsy at magic as she is in everyday life.
Things grow even more complicated when Doremi's two friends, the gentle Hazuki Fujiwara and the spirited Aiko Senoo, learn her secret and are drawn into the same world as apprentice witches. The three girls have to study spells, improve their magic, and somehow keep up with ordinary school life if they want to pass the witch exams and become full-fledged witches. They need all the luck they can get: Doremi still has a debt to Majorika to repay, and until the trio can master their lessons, she remains a useless little witch girl.
