Nijusseiki Denki Mokuroku: Eureka Evrika is set in an alternate summer of 1907, the 40th year of the Meiji era, when Kyoto remains choked by industrial smoke and technological progress has followed a harsher steam-driven path. The age of electricity is spoken of as a coming revolution, yet in practice it feels like a distant dream. In Fushimi, 15-year-old Inako Momokawa, the second daughter of a sake brewer, endures constant scolding at home and places her trust in prayer while quietly carrying hopes, regrets, and the memory of her deceased mother. At Fushimi Inari, she meets Kihachi Sakamoto, a restless boy hardened after losing track of his older brother and embittered by a shared future that was cut short. He distrusts easy promises, rejects the gods, and insists that electricity will change everything.
When Inako's father pushes forward a marriage arrangement she does not want, Kihachi draws out her wish to run away from the life being chosen for her. Their only lead is the mysterious 20th Century Electrical Catalog, a prophetic book about electricity that Kihachi wrote as a child before it vanished with his brother Seiroku. As Inako and Kihachi search across Kyoto and into Shiga prefecture, the catalog's hidden secrets pull them toward the pasts that shaped them and the future they have both longed for. Between steam, faith, and invention, the story follows their search for hope in a world suspended between lingering smoke and a brighter tomorrow.
