Love Hina follows Keitarou Urashima, who as a child made a promise to enter Tokyo University and reunite with a girl he met years ago. At 20, after failing the entrance exam twice, he is stuck between embarrassment and determination, unsure whether he is chasing a dream or clinging to a memory. Hoping a fresh start will help him study, he heads to an inn owned by his grandmother, only to discover that Hinata Inn has become an all-girls dormitory.
There, Keitarou is thrown into daily life with five very different residents: Naru Narusegawa, a sharp and ambitious girl who is also aiming for Tokyo University; Mitsune Konno, a mischievous freelance writer with a carefree streak; Kaolla Su, an energetic engineer with a talent for causing chaos; Shinobu Maehara, a timid girl trying to find her place; and Motoko Aoyama, a serious kendo enthusiast who takes a dim view of his arrival. Though the first impression is far from welcoming, Keitarou ends up managing the building and slowly becomes part of the household.
As romance, misunderstandings, and clashing personalities pile up, Love Hina balances comedy with the story of a young man trying to keep a childhood promise while learning how complicated growing up can be.
