Kao ni Denai Kashiwada-san to Kao ni Deru Oota-kun follows Oota, a boy who barely hides anything on his face and even shrugs off his single-digit test scores in search of a new source of amusement, and Kashiwada, his classmate whose blank expression makes her impossible to read. Fascinated by the mysterious student who always seems to wear a placid face, Oota keeps trying to crack her composure with scares and mischievous schemes, only to have his tactics backfire again and again.
At school, Oota is known as the class clown and is constantly disciplined by his teacher, who says that his face gives him away. He cannot control his emotions or facial expressions, while Kashiwada remains cool, silent, and unreadable, leaving everyone around them guessing what she is thinking. Their contrast is immediate and unmistakable: one reacts to everything, the other gives nothing away.
What begins as teasing slowly turns into a unique relationship built on their complete opposition. As Oota and Kashiwada spend more time together, their awkward dynamic grows into something warmer and more personal, raising the question of whether opposites really do attract.
