In Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi, 28-year-old writer Sumireko Ogawa reaches adulthood carrying more disillusionment than literary success. Once hailed as a child prodigy, she now faces hostility from editors, struggles to publish her work, and can barely make progress on a new novel while settling into the uneventful life of a bookstore clerk. That routine ends abruptly when she reads poetry from a strange book and is violently drawn into a world of mysteries, transforming into a child again.
The change restores Sumireko's inspiration and youthful enthusiasm, but her coworker Ren Adashino—an expert in the occult—warns that the transformation will eventually kill her unless she finds and reads other verses from the book. Reluctantly searching for a way to regain her adult form, Sumireko joins Ren and his sister Oto in a series of paranormal investigations. Even though Ren's true goals remain unclear to her, Sumireko is determined to turn these dangerous new experiences into lasting literary success.
