Hinako Note centers on Hinako "Hina" Sakuragi, a girl born and raised in the Japanese countryside who becomes so anxious around new people that she freezes up like a scarecrow. After seeing a stage play during a school field trip, she decides that theater might help her learn to speak more freely. With that hope in mind, Hina moves to Hitotose Manor in the bustling city of Tokyo and enrolls at Fujiyama High School, planning to join the school's renowned theater club.
Her plans fall apart as soon as she arrives: Fujiyama High's theater club has been inactive for a long time, leaving her unsure what to do next after already relocating and starting school. Chiaki Hagino, the landlady of Hitotose Manor, notices both Hina's disappointment and her determination, and encourages her to form a new troupe with the manor's residents. Alongside friends such as Yua Nakajima, Kuina Natsukawa, and Mayuki Hiiragi, Hina begins a new life in Tokyo while learning the basics of acting, building confidence, and finding support on and off the stage.
