High Card follows Finn, a street-smart orphan who learns that his orphanage is on the brink of closing because of financial stress. Hoping to raise enough money to save it, he heads to a casino to try his luck, only to be caught in a violent car chase and bloody shootout sparked by a man's 'lucky' card. Finn soon discovers that the world order is shaped by a set of 52 X-Playing cards, each of which grants a different superhuman ability to whoever possesses it. Those powers are tied to the hidden strength of the 'buddy' within each person, and the scattered cards have become the target of collectors, criminals, and the kingdom itself. At the center of that struggle is High Card, a secret group of players ordered directly by the king of Fourland to recover the missing cards while secretly working as employees of the luxury carmaker Pinochle. Recruited as the group's fifth member, Finn joins them on dangerous missions that put him face to face with the rival car maker Who's Who, obsessed with defeating Pinochle, and the feared Klondikes, an infamous Mafia family. As justice, desire, and revenge collide, High Card turns into a frantic battle among card-obsessed players. In a kingdom where manners, dignity, and the will to bet your own life can decide the outcome, Finn and his teammates are drawn into a showdown with consequences that reach far beyond the table. "All you need in life are manners, dignity, and the will to bet on your own life."
