Gugure! Kokkuri-san follows Kohina Ichimatsu, a self-proclaimed doll whose quiet, uneventful life turns bizarre the moment she summons a fox spirit named Kokkuri-san. In legend, Kokkuri-san is supposed to be an omniscient presence who answers questions and guides those who call on him, but in modern times the loss of believers has left him powerless and far from the mysterious figure people expect.
What he finds instead is Kohina: a strange, solitary girl who lives on her own and seems to survive on nothing but cup ramen. Shocked by her habits and worried about her wellbeing, Kokkuri-san decides to stay with her and take responsibility for her daily life, making sure she eats proper meals and lives in decent conditions. Their unlikely household quickly becomes a string of awkward, absurd, and oddly heartfelt situations as Kokkuri-san struggles through his less-than-hopeful efforts to be a caretaker, while Kohina remains as eccentric as ever. The result is a peculiar comedy built around supernatural domestic life, deadpan humor, and the unstable routine shared by a fox spirit and the girl who summoned him.
