In Ghost Hunt, high school student Mai Taniyama spends her time trading ghost stories with her friends, especially the rumors surrounding an abandoned school building on campus that seems to sit at the center of every tale. Those stories become far more serious when the school principal brings in Kazuya Shibuya, the 17-year-old president of the Shibuya Psychic Research Company. Mai first meets him as a mysterious young man who interrupts the storytelling, but his arrival makes it clear that the campus hauntings are more than a game.
The next day, Mai is drawn directly into Kazuya’s investigation after she passes the building, examines a strange camera she spots inside, and accidentally interferes with the case. The mistake breaks the camera and leaves Kazuya’s assistant injured, forcing Kazuya to hire Mai so she can help pay for the damage and replace the assistant. From that point on, Ghost Hunt opens into the world of paranormal investigation, where Mai begins learning how ghost hunting works and how unsettling the supernatural can become when rumors turn real. As the series unfolds, the partnership between Mai and Kazuya turns classroom ghost stories into practical encounters with the unknown, with each case pushing them deeper into the eerie side of everyday school life.
