More than a Married Couple, but Not Lovers. follows third-year high school students caught in a marriage-practice program that pairs boys and girls as pretend spouses while teachers judge how convincingly they can live together. Jirou Yakuin enters the course hoping to be matched with his childhood friend Shiori Sakurazaka, while Akari Watanabe is determined to land a pairing with her crush, Minami Tenjin. Instead, Jirou and Akari are assigned to each other and must share a home, cooperate under constant supervision, and learn how to act like a real couple in front of their classmates. What begins as an awkward arrangement soon becomes a daily test of nerves, pride, and self-control. As Jirou and Akari chase enough points to earn a partner swap, jealousy and embarrassment push them into situations neither of them can fully control. The more they perform the role of boyfriend and girlfriend, the harder it becomes to separate the act from their real feelings, especially as their ties to Shiori and Minami continue to complicate the competition. The series turns that pressure into a messy romantic struggle where obligation, attraction, and genuine affection slowly begin to overlap.
