Escaflowne

Escaflowne follows Hitomi Kanzaki, a 15-year-old schoolgirl whose interest in tarot cards and fortune telling becomes the doorway to another world. One night, a boy named Van Fanel appears from the sky beside a vicious dragon, and Hitomi’s sudden premonition helps Van slay it. A pillar of light then envelops them both, carrying Hitomi away to Gaea, a mysterious realm where the Earth hangs in the sky. There, Hitomi learns that Van is the prince of the Kingdom of Fanelia, a land soon overwhelmed by the expansionist empire of Zaibach. When Van mounts his family’s ancient guymelef, Escaflowne, a mechanized battle suit built for war, even that power is not enough to save his kingdom, and Fanelia falls into ruin. Forced onto the run, Hitomi and Van cross paths with Allen Schezar, a handsome Asturian knight who shocks Hitomi because he looks exactly like her crush from Earth. As allies gather around them, the pair are drawn deeper into the struggle against Zaibach, whose rulers seek to revive an ancient power that could reshape Gaea itself.
