Ergo Proxy unfolds in Romdo, one of the last human cities surviving inside a domed enclosure after Earth's ecological collapse. In this tightly controlled society, AutoReivs—human-like robots designed to assist daily life—begin to succumb to the mysterious Cogito Virus, which awakens self-awareness and unsettles the order of the city. As the investigation deepens, Re-l Mayer, the granddaughter of Romdo's ruler, is sent to examine the phenomenon with her AutoReiv partner Iggy. What first appears to be a routine inquiry soon exposes buried crimes, political manipulation, and the moral rot beneath Romdo's polished surface.
At the same time, Vincent Law is drawn into a series of surreal incidents that place him at the center of the city's unraveling secrets. Joined by Re-l, Iggy, and the child AutoReiv Pino, he becomes part of an uneasy alliance trying to understand Romdo's mysteries and the true purpose of the enigmatic Proxies. Blending psychological mystery, bleak science fiction, and existential dread, Ergo Proxy follows their search for truth in a world where humanity's future may already be compromised.
