DRAMAtical Murder is set on Midorijima, Japan, an island reshaped by Toue Inc. after the company bought the land years earlier with plans to build Platinum Jail, a gleaming utopian complex reserved for the world's wealthiest citizens. As that district rose, longtime residents were pushed into the Old Residential District and left behind once construction was finished.
On the island, daily life is split between two rival systems: Rib, an old-school turf war fought by gangs, and Rhyme, a high-tech virtual reality battle game. Anyone who wants to take part in Rhyme needs an All-Mate, the pet-like AI companion woven into everyday life, and every match must be mediated by an Usui.
Aoba Seragaki wants no part of Midorijima's conflicts. He lives quietly with his grandmother and his All-Mate, Ren, hoping to keep an ordinary routine intact. But after he is forced into a dangerous Rhyme match and rumors begin to spread that Rib players are disappearing, the fragile balance around him begins to collapse. Pulled deeper into the island's hidden violence and long-buried secrets, Aoba is drawn into a conflict he never asked for, where loyalty, control, and survival become impossible to separate.
