Doukyuusei unfolds during a single high school summer, tracing the quiet connection between Hikaru Kusakabe, a carefree guitarist in a rock band, and Rihito Sajou, a top student who struggles to keep up when their class is preparing a chorus song. When Kusakabe notices Sajou practicing alone, he offers to help, and what begins as a small gesture slowly turns into a reason for them to spend more and more time together.
As rehearsals continue, their differences give the story its tension and warmth. Kusakabe brings an easy confidence and an open way of moving through the world, while Sajou carries the pressure of being the best and the uncertainty that comes with growing up. Between school expectations, the future ahead, and feelings neither boy can easily put into words, Doukyuusei lets each conversation and shared practice session deepen their bond. The film builds its emotional pull through small moments rather than big declarations, making the summer setting, the music, and the changing rhythm of their relationship feel intimate and carefully observed.
