Comic Girls centers on Kaoruko “Chaos” Moeta, a shy young manga artist whose work keeps stumbling before it can find an audience. Worried about her creative prospects and her difficulty connecting with others, her editor pushes her toward a more social environment, and she moves into a dormitory for female manga creators. There she meets Tsubasa Katsuki, a sharp shounen manga artist; Ruki Irokawa, who draws popular erotic manga for women; and Koyume Koizuka, a gentle shoujo artist still waiting for serialization.
Living together turns the dorm into a place where deadlines, drafts, and self-doubt are part of everyday life. The four women trade advice, compare their approaches to storytelling and art, and support one another through the frustrations that come with trying to make manga a career. As their routines settle into a warm rhythm, Comic Girls highlights the friendships that grow between creators, the insecurities each of them carries, and the slow but encouraging way they improve as artists.
