In Blue Gender, Yuji Kaido places his hopes in cryogenic sleep after an incurable illness steals his future, expecting to awaken once a cure has been found. Instead, he opens his eyes in 2031 to a ruined Earth overrun by man-eating monsters. Surrounded and nearly killed, he is saved in extremis by a squad of soldiers who fight the creatures with large combat machines. Among them is Marlene Angel, the leader of the team that drags him from suspended animation into a war for human survival.
From Marlene, Yuji learns that the alien species known as BLUE invaded Earth decades earlier and pushed humanity to the brink of extinction. Overwhelmed by the nightmarish reality of the world around him, he still joins the resistance against the BLUE and is forced to adapt to a battlefield that has become everyday life for the survivors. Determination alone will not be enough: if he wants to make any difference in the battle to save mankind, Yuji must learn how to survive alongside hardened soldiers and face the ruthless creatures that now dominate the planet.
