BlazBlue follows Ragna the Bloodedge, the highest-bounty SS-class rebel in the world, whose arrival in the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi turns the city into a battleground. In December 2199, Kagutsuchi is alive with end-of-year celebrations when rumors spread that the "Grim Reaper" has appeared, and bounty hunters, soldiers, and other combatants rush in to claim him for reasons of greed, duty, or ideology. The result is a motley gathering of unrivaled fighters converging on the same city, each carrying a different grudge or objective.
As the chase widens, every faction brings its own agenda, and what begins as a manhunt becomes a struggle over the system that controls the world itself. The BlazBlue anime adaptation centers on clashing ambitions, constant battles, and the uneasy question of whether Ragna is a criminal to be stopped or the key to breaking that order, with the future of the world pulled into the balance.
