Alice & Zoroku begins with Sana, a young girl who has spent her life inside a laboratory as a test subject. She is one of several children gifted with "Alice's Dream," a power that turns imagination into reality; Sana's ability can ignore the laws of physics and create anything she pictures. Isolated from the outside world and desperate to see what lies beyond the facility walls, she escapes the research center and stumbles into Zouroku Kashimura, a stubborn elderly florist, in a convenience store.
When Sana's pursuers quickly catch up, Zouroku is dragged into her trouble whether he wants to be or not. Instead of turning away, he stands by Sana, helps her confront the people chasing her, and gives them a blunt piece of his mind. He eventually offers her a place to stay with his family, including Sanae Kashimura, and the story shifts into the everyday life and struggles of this unlikely household as Sana and Zouroku learn to live together. Through their growing bond, Alice & Zoroku balances warmth with conflict surrounding the other girls who possess Alice's Dream, building its fantasy around the quiet challenge of making a home for someone who has never truly had one.
