Air follows Yukito Kunisaki, a wandering puppeteer who travels from town to town carrying the promise he made to find the Winged Maiden, the mysterious girl his mother once told him was bound to the sky centuries ago. In Kyoto Animation's TV adaptation of Key's visual novel, his search leads him to a quiet coastal town where he meets Misuzu, an unusual girl whose invitation gives him a reason to stay longer than planned. As Yukito settles in, he becomes familiar with the town's residents and is gradually drawn into their everyday struggles, helping them while putting his own quest on hold. Haruko, Kano, Michiru and the other people around Misuzu each add another piece to the town's hidden emotional landscape, and the old legend begins to feel less like a distant tale than something that still shapes the lives around him. Caught between his work as a puppeteer, his promise to his mother and the bonds he forms with the people of the town, Yukito must decide whether the Winged Maiden is still beyond his reach or whether she has been closer than he ever imagined.
