In Abenobashi Mahou☆Shoutengai, 12-year-old Satoshi "Sasshi" Imamiya sees his world falling apart in the Osaka shopping arcade where he grew up. He has lost his card collection, his family's bathhouse has been torn down, and his childhood friend Arumi Asahina is about to move away with her family to Hokkaido. Before either of them can come to terms with those ordinary disasters, reality breaks open and sweeps the two children into a succession of bizarre parallel worlds.
Each new stop turns their hometown into a different exaggeration of itself, sending Sasshi and Arumi through comic versions of science fiction, magic, war, and other alien settings. Every attempt to escape only catapults them into yet another world, until they realize that each one is a reimagining of home. Two unfamiliar figures keep appearing around them: the voluptuous Mune-mune and the elusive blue-haired Eutus, who may hold the key to their predicament. As Sasshi and Arumi desperately try to return home, they uncover a tale that stretches across generations and suggests that the cause of their situation may be far more personal than either of them first believed.
