Growing up, Iwami was not very articulate, which led her to believe she needed to start studying to become a voice actress earlier than others. She convinced her father to let her attend voice acting school, declaring that she wouldn't go to high school otherwise. In 2016, Iwami was selected through an audition to join the cast of Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms as the lead protagonist, Maquia. The film marks the directorial debut of Mari Okada, who also wrote the script for the aforementioned Anohana series. As fate would have it, Maquia would also feature Ai Kayano in a supporting role, creating a significant connection between Iwami and her role model. Although she was cast in Maquia, the film wouldn't be released in theaters until 2018. As a result, Iwami made her screen debut in 2017 in the television series Tsuki ga Kirei.
